Thanks to Sprittibee for letting us know about back to homeschool week. It is hosted by i have to say… and I really look forward to getting a peek into other homeschooling lives.

Here’s a rundown of the topics for the week:

Monday, August 6—What led to your decision to homeschool?
Why do you do what you do? What brought you to homeschooling? What factors played a part in your decision?

Tuesday, August 7—How do you homeschool?
Scheduling, classical education, unschooling, getting the kids to help with chores, how to be “mom” and “teacher” at the same time, special needs, teaching an advanced child, how to teach the tough subjects, teaching high school, teaching with babies and preschoolers in the house, budgeting for homeschool supplies, notebooking, etc., etc., etc…

Wednesday, August 8—Getting out there…
Extra-curricular activities, community involvement, volunteering, sports teams, music lessons, making sure your kids have opportunities to be social, co-ops, etc., etc., etc…

Thursday, August 9—If I had only known…
What have you learned on your homeschooling journey? What would you/did you change? This is an opportunity to encourage others who are just starting out or who are struggling with issues that seem unsolvable. It is also a perfect opportunity to tell us about one of those days made you want to throw in the towel. A funny story? Perfect!

Friday, August 10—Curriculum
What curriculum do you use? Where do you buy it? Have you found a “gem” that you must share with others? Was something in particular a complete failure for you and your kids?

While browsing through the recent Dog Days of Summer giveaway extravaganza, I discovered many talented & creative bloggers. I started bookmarking them to do a Thursday Thirteen ReallyGreatGiftSites to help you get a head start on that Christmas gift list. I didn’t come up with this handy-dandy idea until halfway through the list, so feel free to add more sites to the comments. (I would go back through the list for you, but my family thinks clean clothes & hot meals are important.)

I am not associated in any way with these sites – just wanted to share a little bloggy love.

Script-Yours be sure to look closely -soooo creative

Name Your Tune personalized CD for children

Baby Friendly Beads nursing necklaces

Sweet Fuzzies adorable felt hair clips

Drawing Case look for Flickr box on left – I think I will get these for my kids, they would love them!

SATees shirts with big words for little kids

Reminisce Heirlooms very beautiful jewelry

Kim and Jason warning: you could waste half a day looking around this site; it is so fun!! Be sure to check out their website too.

Ladybugs and Lilypads toooo cute socks & shoes

After a cup of coffee clever coffee mugs – my favorite: A morning without coffee is like…something…without something else. That’s what my brain is like before my morning coffee.

Smooshy glittery stitch markers for knitting needles – I have no idea how they are used, but they sure are pretty- some cute jewelry too

Smockity Frocks hand-smocked baby bonnets & the cutest aprons you’ve ever seen. She has a really great blog too (I’m a shameful lurker)

wfmw – no horror stories

Today is Works-For-Me Wednesday: The Great Parenting Advice Edition

I have 4 wonderfully sweet & stinkery kids only because of the grace & mercy of God, not because I’ve done anything right ;o)

My little bit of advice today is this:

DO NOT TELL YOUR HORRIFYING BIRTH STORIES IN FRONT OF A WOMAN WHO HAS YET TO HAVE CHILDREN!

Our birth stories are a badge of honor, but use discretion when telling them. When I was a very young newlywed, my older friends were already having children. I’ve always loved babies & looked forward to having a family, so I was very excited about their new journeys. That’s when the fun began! I heard story after story about the horrible labors & recoveries. I am a big fat whiny baby when it comes to pain and I was terrified!!

I always try to be honest, but non-graphic, when talking with women who have not yet gone through pregnancy & childbirth. Our job is to encourage them (especially our own daughters) and let them know that it’s all worth it the instant you look in your sweet baby’s eyes.

p.s. Also remember that many women in your midst have empty wombs & would give anything to ‘endure’ pregnancy & childbirth. Choose your words carefully!

Run on over to Rocks In My Dryer for some great parenting tips!
