I took one of our favorite Thanksgiving books and turned it into a math lesson.
The kids decided how they wanted to measure each item in the story, and then they added up all the items as they were mentioned in the book.
The Old Lady’s Thanksgiving Dinner:
pie = 8 slices = 64 slices
cider = 1 gallon = 7 gallons
roll = 2 1/2 inches = 15 inches
squash = 6 lbs = 30 lbs (weighed the big squash on our front porch)
salad = 2 bags = 8 bags
turkey = 15 lbs = 45 lbs
pot = 10 quarts = 20 qts
cake = 291 servings (used this site)
bread = 22 slices
