If you are anything like me, you have some really amazing ideas saved somewhere on your computer for each season or holiday. Ideas that you completely forget about when it is time to use them.

I decided to give us all a little reminder each month to check our Pinterest boards and computer files so that we can actually implement these helpful tools. Don’t forget those free Kindle eBooks and the real books on your shelves!

Each month I will be linking to the activities and resources that I have saved and want to use. If you have some great links, please feel free to share them in the comments!

Some of you don’t have a Facebook account, and therefore can’t join our Homeschooling through the Seasons group. I created a Pinterest board for you to follow instead! (Or follow both!) I added the resources from the last two weeks, and will pin new links each day.

Posts to Encourage You This Week

October 5, 2014 By: amyswandering2 Comments

posts to encourage

I am joining in on 5 on the Fifth, a brand-new linky hosted by Ben and Me.  We will each be sharing five must-read posts on the fifth of each month.

It was a difficult decision, but I’ve narrowed it down some posts that I hope will encourage you and give you something to mull over this week.

A Pinterest Perfect House  – Lots of food for thought here on what makes a house a home. “I don’t want a house that is Pinterest perfect, I want a home that is Christ perfected.”

On Daughters and Dating: How to Intimidate Suitors  – I double heart this one. We’ve worked very hard to raise this kind of daughter. “Instead of intimidating all your daughter’s potential suitors, raise a daughter who intimidates them just fine on her own. Because, you know what’s intimidating? Strength and dignity. Deep faith. Self-assuredness. Wisdom. Kindness. Humility. Industriousness.”

9 Ways Generous People See the World Differently  – This list really made me slow down and think about how I view and use my resources. “In order to unconform our thinking in a consumer-driven world and begin taking greater advantage of the abundant benefits of generosity, we need to shift our worldview.”

Homemaking as Worship  – Encouragement to offer up the mundane. “The work He places before me is what I put my hand to do, and I am admonished to do it with all my might unto Him and for His glory.”

Grace in the Moment  – Eight simple ways to offer grace to our children when we are frustrated. “Raise your hand if you want to be a godly mama to your precious little ones. Me too! Raise your hand again if you ever struggle with getting frustrated with your kids when they mess up, even when you KNOW in your head that is not the right response.”

If you have a 5 on the Fifth list that you would like to share, run on over and add your post to the linky.

Big Band and Michael Bublè

This post contains my Amazon affiliate link. I only link to things we like & use.
I hope you like them too!

I don’t keep up with music trends these days. I’m too busy being miffed that my beloved 80s music is now on the oldies station!!! The old stuff and Contemporary Christian are what top my chart now. (The REAL oldies, not the stuff I shouldn’t have listened to in high school.)

When offered the chance to review To Be Loved, Michael Bublè’s newest album, I gladly accepted. It is a fun mix of four original songs and ten covers.

I love the old sound of this album! The music is true to the era of each song. One particularly-adorable song has a very retro Reese Witherspoon singing along. (You’re not alone, I didn’t know she could sing either.)

My favorite is “To Love Somebody” .
Here’s a test to see if you were alive during the 70s (or if you are too young, to see if your parents raised you right):

Can you sing these lyrics with the proper dramatic emphasis and pauses?

You don’t know what it’s like, baby

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE

To love somebody

To love somebody

The way I.Love.You.

Did you pass? –>Answer Key  Extra Credit if you made your voice sound funny.

(And yes, I know it technically came out in the late 60s, but I wasn’t alive then.)

Take a look at all of the songs:

1. You Make Me Feel So Young
2. It’s A Beautiful Day (original)
3. To Love Somebody
4. Who’s Lovin You
5. Something Stupid featuring Reese Witherspoon
6. Come Dance With Me
7. Close Your Eyes (original)
8. After All featuring Bryan Adams (original)
9. Have I Told You Lately That I Love You with Naturally 7
10. To Be Loved
11. You’ve Got A Friend In Me
12. Nevertheless (I’m In Love With You) featuring The Puppini Sisters
13. I Got It Easy (original)
14. Young At Heart

You can purchase To Be Loved through Amazon or at your local “record” store.

It is a great album for a summer road trip!!
