love long ago

Was it love at first site? or did it take a little longer…
Let’s travel back to the day we met our spouse.

Is there such a thing as like at first sight? LOL. I first met Hubby through our youth group – I was 17, he was 16. He was in a serious relationship at the time. I was not interested in him at all, but I do remember thinking, “I’d like to marry a guy like that someday.” He was cute, friendly and very respectful of the girls in the youth group.

Our group went on a mission trip the summer after my Senior year and we became fast friends on the trip- he was very funny and a little crazy :o) He & his long-time girlfriend broke up as soon as the trip was over. I was too busy drooling over another guy in our youth group to care, but that next Sunday there was a group of girls crowded around Jason’s dad wanting to know if it was true, is he really available? Our youth minister got a kick out of it and created tickets for “A Date with Jason”. We ran with it & came up with all these silly “date” ideas like washing his car LOL. We decided to test some of them out & that’s when I realized that I might like him more than just a friend. That just complicated things and made it painful to watch him date one of my close friends. Something happened, although I don’t remember what, and we ended up not speaking to each other for several months.

Fast forward to the summer after his Senior year. It’s the week before VBS and we are all at the church building putting in long hours of preparation. We started talking to each other & having fun again. Everyone but the two of us realized that we were perfect for each other, so our friends Jeff & Kama invited us to go out with them after the last night of VBS ( not as a couple, just to hang out) . It ended up being too late because Kama had a very strict curfew, so they went home and Jason & I went to his house. Someone had rented The Princess Bride so we decided to watch it. It was a romantic movie, we held hands, and that was the end of “just friends”. We were engaged 3 months later, and we’ll celebrate our 15th anniversary in October.

[I didn’t know this until several months later, but during that prep week Jason told his friend BJ that he was going to marry me.]

I know you have a great story to tell about how you met your spouse, so run on over to Annie’s and share it!

grosser than gross

July 21, 2007 By: amyswandering1 Comment

When Little Prince was an imaginative 3 year old, he came into my room with something in his hand. I was researching some stuff for school on the computer and just played along as he said, “Mommy look at my cuuuute little mouse! Wanna pet it?”. I turned to pet his “mouse” & realized that there was a DEAD BABY MOUSE in the palm of his hand. Now, I could deal with a live baby mouse in his hand – they are pretty cute – but a dead one? No way Jose. I calmly broke his sweet little heart as I told him Dead Baby Mouse would have to live in a Walmart bag in the trash can outside.

Do you have a grosser than gross story? If so, you could win a Dirt Devil Kone over at Adventures in Babywearing. You have until 8 p.m. Sunday to enter.

13 “unique” things about me

June 14, 2007 By: amyswanderingcomment

tt31.gif

We did a fun little activity in our teen girls’ Bible study today – we each made a list of Unique Things About Me. I only did four as an example for them, so now I’m going to add nine more & turn it into a Thursday Thirteen. (It’s so sad that you have nothing better to do than read my ramblings :o)

1. I am fluent in Pig Latin.

2. My great, great, great & so on granddad was a Texas Ranger (the kind on a horse). or was he my uncle?

3. I don’t eat ketchup on anything but fried shrimp.

4. I’ve visited 7 different countries.

5. I’ve lived near a World Famous Rodeo for most of my life but I’ve never been.

6. I enjoy going to baseball games but can’t stand to watch baseball on tv.

7. I have a chickenpox scar on the tip of my earlobe.

8. I love parmesan cheese on my popcorn.

9. When I was little we played a game called ‘light as a feather, stiff as a board’ at all of the slumber parties. One time it actually worked, freaked me out, & I never played it again.

10. My hair & nails grow annoyingly fast (yes, I do realize it’s a blessing, not a curse).

11. I have some fake snow from the movie Far and Away. They were filming it when I lived in Ireland.

12. I collect squished pennies.

13. I worked at JC Penney for a year right out of high school. One day they announced that some guy named Troy Aikman would be signing autographs at the front of the store. I was returning some items to another department & I just happened to be following our store manager as he led our special guest to his table. That’s when I realized that Troy Aikman was not a meteorologist.

homemaking meme

February 15, 2007 By: amyswanderingcomment

This looked fun so I thought I’d give it a try. If you want to do a list too, leave a comment so we can check it out!

Aprons – Y/N?
No, but I might consider it. I had no idea so many people still wore aprons until I started reading blogs.

Baking – Favorite thing to bake:
pumpkin bread

Clothesline – Y/N?
No, it is against our homeowner association regulations (which is ridiculous considering we live on an acre on the outskirts of town).

Donuts – Have you ever made them?
Only if poking a hole in canned biscuits and frying them counts as making donuts.

One homemaking thing you do every day:
cook meals

Freezer – Do you have a separate deep freeze?
yes

Garbage Disposal – Y/N?
yes

Handbook – What is your favorite homemaking resource?
the internet and my mother-in-law

Ironing – Love it or hate it?
I don’t hate it, but I do it as little as possible. We just throw wrinkled clothes in the dryer with a damp washcloth for everyday wear.

Junk drawer – Y/N? Where is it?
yes, in the kitchen

Kitchen: Design & Decorating?
birdhouses

Love: What is your favorite part of homemaking?
I love to make my home a festive, fun place to be. My mom filled our home with laughter & celebration, and I want my children to have the same memories.

Mop – Y/N?
Yes, although our favorite method doesn’t involve a mop, but 5 pairs of socks. I got the idea from Michelle.

Nylons – Wash by hand or in the washing machine?
throw them away (I know, wasteful, but I rarely wear them & they are cheap)

Oven – Do you use the window, or open the door to check?
open the door

Pizza – What do you put on yours?
sausage & green olives

Quiet – What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment?
I go find out what my two youngest are getting into – that’s the only time it’s quiet.

Recipe card box – Y/N
No, but I do have a recipe notebook. I find most of my recipes on the internet & print them out.

Style of house –
I have no idea- traditional? red brick & black roof

Tablecloths and napkins – Y/N?
I usually have a seasonal table cloth, but we use paper napkins. I think I am going to try Shannon’s idea soon.

Under the kitchen sink – Organized or toxic wasteland?
Toxic wasteland. In addition to the usual toxins, I now keep our peanut butter & bubble bath under there.

Vacuum – How many times per week
every day

Wash – How many loads of laundry do you do a week?
at least 10

X’s – Do you keep a daily list of things to do and cross them off?
not usually

Yard – Who does what?
HaHaHa….oh, sorry. What I meant to say was Hubby is in charge of the grass & garden, & the kiddos are in charge of leaving their toys & bikes everywhere putting away their toys & bikes. I am in charge of whining about how hot it is and choosing which beautiful plants we will be killing this season.

Zzz’s – What is your last homemaking task for the day before going to bed?
Making sure all toys & shoes are put away so the dogs don’t have a party after we go to bed.
