Now that Fall is here, I love to fill my home with seasonal scents – pumpkin spice, apple pie & cider are some of my favorites. I go through a lot of candles, but I also like to use a simmering pot on the stove to scent my home.
I fill a pot with water and throw in a little bit of whatever I have on hand: vanilla, cinnamon, apple cores, orange slices. (I keep a baggie in my freezer for apple cores – just toss them in the bag instead of the trash. You could do the same thing with orange peels.)
A bonus is the humidity added in your home – great for dry winter air. **Be sure to keep the temp low & check the water level occasionally.

I never thought of putting apple cores in. I will have to try that!
Great tip!

Wow! what a great idea. The only time I’ve done anything like that is when I cook fish. Someone told me once that if you leave cinnamon “cooking” in a pot of water on your stove while you cook the fish it keeps the fish smell away. It’s worked for me. I’m gonna have to try apple, orange and vanilla!
