Elementary Chemistry & Physics Homeschool Curriculum

July 31, 2015 By: amyswandering4 Comments

I was sponsored by Masterbooks to review their Elementary Chemistry & Physics homeschool curriculum and am excited to share my experience as well as an awesome giveaway!  All opinions are mine alone.  For more information please read my full disclosure.

Master Books Review - Science Starters: Elementary Chemistry & Physics - affordable, easy to use, and adaptable to multiple ages

Science is one of those subjects that we like to learn all together, so a homeschool science curriculum for my younger kiddos has to fit a certain criteria. It has to be affordable, it has to be easy to use, and it has to be adaptable to multiple ages.

Master Books hit it out of the ballpark with their Science Starters: Elementary Chemistry & Physics Curriculum.

Affordable Homeschool Curriculum

The Elementary Chemistry & Physics Pack is under $55 for a full year of lessons, experiments, quizzes, and tests.

The set includes:

  • Matter – Student
  • Matter – Student Journal
  • Matter – Teacher Guide
  • Energy – Student
  • Energy – Teacher Guide
  • Energy – Student Journal
  • Parent Lesson Planner

Because we work through lessons as a group, the only duplicates we need are the Student Journals. Each additional journal is only $5! The quizzes and tests are in the Parent Lesson Planner, along with permission to make copies for each child.

One thing that really impressed me is the quality of these books. Nice covers, crisp white pages, and colorful illustrations are the standard.

Easy to Use

The ease of use is what is usually going to make it or break it for me when it comes to a science curriculum.

I don’t want to have to order fancy supplies that we won’t ever use again. Elementary Chemistry & Physics uses mainly items we already have at home. What we don’t have can be picked up at the local hardware store.

I don’t want to have to hold my kids’ hands every step of the way. The activities in the Student Journal have clear and simple instructions. I’m confident my kids can complete them with little direction from me. (I will of course be supervising for safety.)

And I don’t want to get a headache trying to figure how to schedule the lessons for the year. The Parent Lesson Planner has 36 weeks of assignments ready to go.

Parent Lesson Planner

Great for Multiple Ages

Any science curriculum we use needs to be adaptable for early elementary through junior high. This Science Starters set is very easy adjust due to two levels of quizzes and tests. It is designed for grades 3-6, but I plan on cutting a few things out for my younger one, and adding some additional research in for my middle schooler using the info in the Digging Deeper section of each chapter.

Master Books is a Christian curriculum, so I don’t have to worry about worldly viewpoints that my younger ones aren’t ready to understand.

It will look something like this:

  • Early Elementary – listen to lesson, do the experiment, draw the results
  • Older Elementary – lesson, experiment, student journal, level 1 quizzes & tests
  • Junior High – lesson, experiment, student journal, dig deeper, level 2 quizzes & tests
