My gang loves to make homemade Christmas candy to give to family and friends. We turn the dining room table into candyland for a few hours as everyone works together to assemble our treats.
Our favorites to make are homemade butterfingers, candy cane pretzels, and white chocolate peppermint popcorn. I will try to get some pictures added soon, but here are the instructions in a nutshell.
If these don’t appeal to you, there are 24 more delicious candy recipes below, with pictures! This post contains affiliate links.
~Homemade Butterfingers~
This is going to sound weird, but they truly do taste like a Butterfinger candy bar!
- Cheez-It crackers (any cheese cracker will do, but these taste the most authentic)
- peanut butter
- chocolate almond bark <– I am linking to this so you can see what I’m talking about, but it is way cheaper at the grocery store.
Spread a dab of peanut butter on a cheese cracker and top it with another cracker, making a little peanut butter cracker sandwich. Put the chocolate bark into a microwave safe bowl and microwave according to the directions on the package. Using a fork, dip each cracker sandwich into the melted chocolate and tap fork lightly on the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. Place on wax paper to cool and harden. Try not to eat them all before you give them away!
If your coating cools and starts to harden in any of these recipes, just pop the bowl back into the microwave for a few seconds. You could also use a mini slow cooker to keep it warm.
~Candy Cane Pretzels~
- pretzel mini twists
- vanilla almond bark
- candy canes
- semisweet chocolate chips, melted
Crush the candy canes. We like to use these big candy sticks. I put them in a freezer bag and gently hammer. Spread out the pretzels into rows on wax paper. Put the vanilla bark into a microwave safe bowl and microwave according to the directions on the package. Spoon some of the vanilla bark into the center of each pretzel – enough to fill the holes. Sprinkle with crushed candy canes before it hardens ( so just do a few at a time or assembly line it with several people). When all of your pretzels are done, drizzle with melted chocolate chips.
Chocolate drizzle tip: Put a sandwich baggie in a mug and fold the edges over the top of the mug. Fill with melted chocolate chips. Seal the baggie, squeezing out any excess air. Twist the baggie and snip a tiny little bit off of the corner to make a piping bag.
~White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn~
- popped popcorn, plain
- vanilla almond bark
- peppermint extract
- crushed candy canes or peppermints
- semisweet chocolate chips, melted
Crush candy. Put the vanilla bark into a microwave safe bowl and microwave according to the directions on the package. Stir a few drops of peppermint extract into the melted bark. Fill a large mixing bowl with the popcorn and then pour over the peppermint vanilla bark. Stir gently to coat. Sprinkle crushed candy over popcorn and stir gently until evenly distributed. Pour out onto wax paper and spread out into an even layer. Drizzle with melted chocolate chips. Let cool completely and then break into small clusters. Store immediately in airtight container or bag.
We package these treats up in Christmas cellophane bags from the dollar store and tie it closed with some pretty curling ribbon. You can also use adorable treat boxes. You might want to layer some wax paper in between the rows of candy in the boxes.
