Theme of the Day Chart

August 7, 2012 By: amyswandering6 Comments

Last year, I came up with my Theme of the Day idea.

The concept worked pretty good for us, but not all of the subjects did. I made the mistake of choosing too many things that I wanted my kids to know and not enough of the things we actually wanted to learn.

After much prayer and pondering, I think I’ve come up with a plan that we will really enjoy!

We will be doing our Theme of the Day activities each morning right after Bible study.  (I plan them weekly.) All of the links below are FREE!

Winter Arts & Crafts

January 20, 2012 By: amyswandering1 Comment

In my efforts to have a simple Christmas season, I came up with what I thought was a good idea: save all of the snowman/snowflake/winter crafts for the cold, dark, slower days of January.

What I didn’t count on was an unseasonably warm month. It just doesn’t feel right to be painting snowy scenes when my kids are outside in their bare feet!

I am sharing some of the cute ideas I saved on my Pinterest boards in case some of you are actually experiencing winter this year.  🙂

Winter Tree Silhouette

Paper Plate Snowman

Macaroni Snowflakes

Painting with Pine Trees

Frosty Friends

Looking Up

Snowman Names

Shaving Cream Snowman

Crystal Snowflake

Theme of the Day

August 17, 2011 By: amyswandering6 Comments

I am doing something new during our morning group time this year … Theme of the Day activities.

My plan is to spend around 30 minutes learning something new or doing something fun. I don’t know if it will work, but we are going to try it.

Here are my themes & ideas:

Memory Work Monday

  • Bible verses
  • English from the Roots Up
  • Mnemonics

Creativity Tuesday

  • seasonal/holiday crafts
  • art techniques

Writer’s Workshop Wednesday

  • creative writing
  • poetry
  • traits of a good writer
  • mad libs

Think About It Thursday

  • puzzles
  • mazes
  • mysteries
  • logic problems

Nature Fun Friday

  • nature walk
  • scavenger hunts
  • notebook pages
  • games

I made a chart to hang up so I don’t have to answer “What are we doing today?‘ five times. Would you like a copy?

I hope to share our activities here each week, but we’ll see how that goes…. 😀

Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Scavenger Hunt

November 17, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

The grocery ads that arrived this morning are chock-full of Thanksgiving yummies.

I searched through them and created a Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Scavenger Hunt.

This list was made using ads from Kroger, Tom Thumb, and Albertsons.

Find the price of each item in all three ads, then add all the items up to determine which store is the best bargain.

Little ones can do a scavenger hunt with one ad by just hunting for the items on the list.

I plan on doing a similar one for Christmas, and include a hunt through my coupon binder!

{Grocery List}

20 lb. frozen turkey

10 lb. ham

5 lbs. sweet potatoes

2 lbs. butter

1 carton Blue Bell ice cream

1 box Ritz crackers

2 boxes Betty Crocker cake mix

3 cans cranberry sauce

1 fresh pumpkin pie

1 fresh pecan pie

1 bunch celery

4  2-ltr. bottles soft drink

4 lb. bag of sugar

16 oz. cream cheese

2 pkgs. rolls

2 cans chicken broth

32 oz. shredded cheddar cheese

24 oz. frozen corn

1 bag Nestle chocolate chips

1 bouquet Fall flowers
