Homeschooling Preschool for Free

For the first time in fifteen years, I don’t have a preschooler. *sniff**sniff* It is my favorite age to teach! I love seeing little eyes filled with wonder, and there is freedom to learn without some of the restrictions that we tend to place on the upper grades.

There is no need to purchase a curriculum for your preschooler (unless you want to). There is an abundance of free preschool curriculum from which to choose. The question I get the most is –> “How do I make a plan for the year using free preschool curriculum?”. This week, as part of iHomeschool Network’s Summer Hopscotch, I am going to show you five different ways to plan out your homeschool preschool.

Learning Lifestyle

We are going to start with the most basic plan. I call it a Learning Lifestyle. It doesn’t involve worksheets or sitting at a desk. It is simply teaching concepts to your child as you live out your day. Count the socks as you pull them from the laundry basket. Name the fruits & vegetables at the grocery store and talk about their colors. Count the sides of a book and point out that a rectangle has two longer sides and two shorter sides. Watch a squirrel bury food in the yard and talk about how animals store up for the winter.

I know some of you are uncomfortable just winging it, so I made a simple list of basics to cover. It could go on & on, but at least you will have a starting place! I’m including a printable of the list in case you want to put it in your homeschool planner.

Preschool Skills Checklist

{Math}

  • counting objects (cereal, toys, crayons)
  • counting from 1-20 or higher
  • number recognition (knowing what the #s look like in print)
  • shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval)

{Beginner Phonics}

  • say the alphabet
  • recognize letters in print
  • recognize name in print
  • letter sounds (A says a as in apple)
  • read LOTS of books

{Bible}

  • read Bible stories (I recommend this book)
  • God made…
  • simple memory verses
  • religious holidays

{Science}

  • observe nature, draw in a nature journal
  • talk about the weather in different seasons
  • explain how things work
  • explore hot, cold, wet, dry, textures

{Basic Skills}

  • right & left – practice while putting on shoes
  • cutting practice – safety scissors & scraps of paper
  • learn colors
  • do puzzles
  • manners- please, thank you, wait your turn
  • chores – let them work alongside you

What questions do you have about homeschooling preschool?
I would love to hear them!

50% off Notebooking Pages Lifetime Membership

April 30, 2014 By: amyswanderingcomment

I love my Notebooking Pages membership! I purchased it a couple of years ago during one of these big sales.  No matter what we are studying, Notebooking Pages always has what we need.

I’ve spent years using and blogging about free homeschool resources. A product has to really wow me in order for me to fork over my money. NotebookingPages.com offers me two things I can’t find on my own: Time and Quality

It takes a significant amount of time to hunt down free notebooking pages for a specific topic. Making my own is an option, but isn’t much faster. To be honest, notebooking just wouldn’t happen often around here if I had to do it on my own. (Or clean clothes and hot meals wouldn’t happen, which might be a problem.)

The quality of these pages helps my children take pride in the work they do. The illustrations are crisp  and clear. One thing I love is that each topic will have several different layouts from which to choose, along with different line styles.

With over 100 different sets, and more added each month, there is probably a page for whatever you are studying. On the rare occasion that I have not found what I want, I just pull one of the many decorative generic pages for my kiddos to use.

Guess what!! If you purchase during this birthday sale-a-bration, you will get 2 years of FREE access to The Notebooking Publisher. It is a web-based app that allows you to design your own notebooking and copywork pages using templates or from scratch. You can plug in your own pics that you find on sites like Wikimedia and create a custom page. Get your kids involved and let them create their own pages. You can type within the templates – perfect for high school projects.

The half-price $50 membership is only available for 5 days. It is a lifetime membership, which means you purchase it once and get access to every notebook page ever created from here on out. What a bargain price for years and years of beautiful printables!

Your Lifetime Membership includes:

  • $800+ current pages
  • All future pages
  • 2-year access to The Notebooking Publisher
  • $100 in BONUS Homeschooling e-gifts

I am encouraging you to thoughtfully consider if a Notebooking Pages membership is something that will bless your family. Take a look at some of the samples. Print them out and give ’em a go. But don’t wait too long – the 1/2 off sale ends May 4th. You don’t want to be kicking yourself on the 5th! 😀

  • A-Z ANIMAL PAGES SAMPLE
  • AMERICAN FIRST LADIES SAMPLE
