Just Teach Something

January 25, 2011 By: amyswanderingcomment

Just Teach Something!

That is my school battle cry motto for this year.

Too often I get all caught up in the details and make things more complicated than they need be.

Plans get made, lessons get printed, and Momma gets overwhelmed & never gets it done!

Some things are simple and just need to be taught – not with a unit study, or a workbook, or fancy diagrams – but with a few minutes of discussion and maybe some practice worksheets.

I am starting a new series oh-so-creatively called Just Teach Something. I will be posting links that will give you a simple way to slip important concepts into your busy school day.

There is no set posting schedule for now . . . I’ll share ideas as I find or use them.

To borrow an idea from FlyLady:

A topic randomly taught still educates your children!

p.s. If you are a Type-A mom, you might be shaking your head by now LOL. Just ignore this & carry on! But if you are a Type-B Homie, then you might want to stay tuned!

{Just for the record: this is not the extent of our school life – we do use real curriculum. 🙂 Hubby & I have decided that some things are not worth making our children do hours of work. We just want them to grasp the concept & move on.}

Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Scavenger Hunt

November 17, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

The grocery ads that arrived this morning are chock-full of Thanksgiving yummies.

I searched through them and created a Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Scavenger Hunt.

This list was made using ads from Kroger, Tom Thumb, and Albertsons.

Find the price of each item in all three ads, then add all the items up to determine which store is the best bargain.

Little ones can do a scavenger hunt with one ad by just hunting for the items on the list.

I plan on doing a similar one for Christmas, and include a hunt through my coupon binder!

{Grocery List}

20 lb. frozen turkey

10 lb. ham

5 lbs. sweet potatoes

2 lbs. butter

1 carton Blue Bell ice cream

1 box Ritz crackers

2 boxes Betty Crocker cake mix

3 cans cranberry sauce

1 fresh pumpkin pie

1 fresh pecan pie

1 bunch celery

4  2-ltr. bottles soft drink

4 lb. bag of sugar

16 oz. cream cheese

2 pkgs. rolls

2 cans chicken broth

32 oz. shredded cheddar cheese

24 oz. frozen corn

1 bag Nestle chocolate chips

1 bouquet Fall flowers
