family fridays

I came across this while blog hopping & thought I would play along.

Our Walmart just got a REDBOX and I signed up for a free rental. We are having Family Fun Night (which is code for watch a movie and eat junk food). You can go Inside Redbox for more free movie codes.

Head on over to Monkey Kisses for more fun ideas. I think Family Fridays is fairly new, so play along & spread the word.

wfmw – 1 coupon a week

May 9, 2007 By: amyswandering3 Comments

wfmwheader_12.jpeg

Couponing is a hobby of mine. I love to clip them, organize them, get $180 worth of groceries for only $12. (Oh yes, I did!) Not everyone feels the same about those wonderful pieces of paper though. My friends have told me that that they don’t use enough coupons to make it worth the trouble to cut them out.

I am going to show you that it IS worth it, even if you only use one coupon a week. One .50 coupon a week adds up over the course of a year.

.50 x 52 weeks = $26.00 a year!

That’s $26.00 you didn’t have before you used only 1 coupon a week. You can go to the movies, buy a pair of shoes, pay down a bill, buy a couple of books. Now think of what you could do if you used 2 coupons a week!

Start by just cutting out the coupon(s) you want to use – there’s no need to cut them ALL out. An important thing to remember is to only choose a coupon for something you would normally buy, like detergent or shampoo.

Head on over to Rocks In My Dryer for some great tips!

homeschool freebies

Note to my non-homeschooling friends: check these sites out too. They are great for school reports or summer projects!

If you haven’t taken a look at homeschoolestore.com, getcherself over there! Their site is very easy to navigate. Sign up for their email list and you will be notified of the weekly freebie. This week’s free ebook is a lapbook titled Christian Missionaries to Know. In my opinion, In the Hands of A Child is the best for lapbooks – best for me means reallllly easy to use.

Another great site is Live and Learn Press. They offer several freebies on the site, plus you can join their Yahoogroup for even more free files.

What, you haven’t had enough? Ok, head on over to the Notebooking Nook for some beautiful printable pages. She also has a great Yahoogroup to join.

down on my knees

May 3, 2007 By: amyswanderingcomment

I was listening to the radio in the car this morning, singing along at the top of my little lungs.

“Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name”

That part of the song always takes me back 7 years to Elijah’s battle with Leukemia. We were walking down that road. But this morning my thoughts were on Heather. She is being prepped for brain surgery as I type this. If you have not stopped by her blog, GO.READ.NOW. You will be challenged, strengthened, the hair will stand up on your arms as you read of her Faith that runs so deep.

As I was thinking of Heather, the song ended & we were reminded that today is the National Day of Prayer. My eyes filled with tears. How fitting that Heather’s surgery is scheduled today. Her tumor was discovered by an ear infection, she got an appointment in 2 days that should have taken 6-8 months to secure, and now she is having surgery on a day when the entire nation is taking a few moments to stop & at least acknowledge our God. He never ceases to AMAZE me!

wfmw no-stress present opening

May 2, 2007 By: amyswandering10 Comments

wfmwheader_12.jpeg

This week’s Works-For-Me-Wednesday has a birthday theme.

Present opening time was always the hardest part of a child’s party to me. Everyone crowds too close & there is always that one kid who thinks they need to help open all the presents. We play a game at our parties that solves this problem.

Have all the kids sit in a circle holding the present they brought. Turn on some fun music & tell the kids to start (slowly) passing the gifts around the circle. When the music stops, the birthday child opens whatever present is in his/her hand at the time. Repeat until all the gifts have been opened.

Not having to deal with a present free-for-all works for me! Head on over to Rocks In My Dryer for more great birthday ideas.

(Just wanted to let you know that I did not create this game. We played it at a party one of the kids went to many years ago, but with 4 kids I have no idea who’s party it was!)
