monday meanderings

September 24, 2007 By: amyswandering16 Comments

Monday Meanderings is a way to use your blog to keep yourself accountable for the week ahead. I tend to to be more diligent if I’m sticking it out here for all to see.

Bible Study/Devotions ~

  • I bought a notebook just for prayer and I want to make it a habit to pray daily for the names I will list.

Must Do ~

  • Get Fall decorations out of the attic & decorate.
  • Ship a couple of packages.
  • Buys sheets for the girls’ bed.
  • Get my Christmas planning notebook organized.
  • Order these shoes. (FYI, Crocs are soooo comfortable. I’ve had hip problems since Little Prince was born-he was h-u-uge compared to my others-and I can walk all day in crocs with nary a problem. And no matter what anyone tells you, the knock-offs are not anywhere close.)
  • Finalize & print October calendar for youth group.
  • Make more laundry detergent. *recipe below

Zone ~

  • Clean my bedroom from top to bottom.

Train Them Up ~

  • Start praying daily during our schooling for the missionaries we support.

Menu Planning ~

  • Celebrate the first week of Fall with a Harvest Cake, courtesy of The Homespun Heart.
  • Cut & organize my coupons so I can match them up with Wednesday’s new grocery ads

*Laundry detergent recipe:

  • 2/3 bar laundry soap, grated (I use Zote, but Fels Naptha is good too)
  • 2 c. Borax laundry powder
  • 2 c. Arm & Hammer Washing Soda

Mix all ingredients in a food processor & store in an airtight container. Use 1 T. per load.

I was a loyal Tide user until I tried this about 4 months ago. It works great & costs me $4 a month instead of $25! (There are recipes that use less of the powders, but this is the only recipe I’ve tried that gets my clothes really clean.) I buy my ingredients at Kroger.

world’s smallest watermelon

September 20, 2007 By: amyswandering2 Comments

 gabbimelon2.jpg

Our little melon garden did poorly this year because of our unusually wet summer (but I’m not complaining!) Believe it or not, this is a watermelon. It’s supposed to be one of those small-serving melons, but not that small! It was sweet, red & juicy – and just enough for each of us to have one bite :o) LOL It wasn’t as sweet as Sassyfrass of course!!

sparkly hannah day

September 19, 2007 By: amyswanderingcomment

Friday is Sparkly Hannah Day! Celebrate this sweet little girl whose life was cut short by a freak drowning accident. As a mother who lost a child, I know that one of the greatest fears is that your child will be forgotten as time goes by. Let her mom know that although we are strangers, we remember Hannah! Details are in her post on how to share your day. [HT to Kelli]

tag… i’m it

September 19, 2007 By: amyswandering2 Comments

Carrie at Chocolate the Other white meat tagged me for a Homeschool meme. (Her blog name always makes me laugh!) So here you go:

You know you are a bona fide homeschooler when….

1. The sound of the school bus coming down the street prompts you to say, “See, if you were in public school you would just now be getting home.”

2. You race to get the camera every time you find a new critter in the yard.

3. The groaning begins when you tell your kids to add a page to their nature study notebook for the newly discovered critter.

4. Anytime the kids go outside it counts as PE.

5. Anything that involves making a mess on the dining room table counts as Art.

6. Your house is never clean for more than 5 minutes because there are four kids there ALL. DAY. LONG.

7. You go grocery shopping at odd hours of the day.

8. Your kids are always trekking across the backyard with a bag full of new books to share with your homeschooling friend who lives right behind you.

9. You get the Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD from Netflix to occupy your 4 year old while doing school with the older ones, and he learns ALL his letter sounds in one week!

10. You look forward to the last Friday of the month because it’s Homeschool Pajama Day!

I tag Jill & anyone else who wants to play along!
