A Suitcase for a Bear Called Paddington

March 31, 2014 By: amyswandering7 Comments

It is time once again for Poppins Book Nook and this month’s theme is
Where in the World?
Feel free to join in the fun with the linky at the end!

A Suitcase for Paddington Bear

A Bear Called Paddington is one of my childhood favorites, so I decided to introduce him to Sweetpea. Paddington is a loveable bear who lives in “Darkest Peru” with his Aunt Lucy. When she moves to a home for retired bears, he turns into a stowaway and ends up in a London train station where he is adopted by the Brown family.

A Bear Called Paddington

Paddington is very attached to his raggedy old suitcase, in which he stores his scrapbook and marmalade. Sweetpea had a ball making her own Paddington suitcase! She crumpled up a couple of brown paper bags and tore them into big pieces while I cut down a cereal box for the suitcase. Armed with a sponge paintbrush and a cup of glue, she carefully covered the suitcase in the strips of brown paper.

Paddington's Suitcase

She wanted to do it all by herself, so I ignored the urge to go back and patch in the spots she missed. 😉 I folded a few sheets of white paper and tucked them into a construction paper cover to make a scrapbook. Her book is already filled with wonderful adventures! Sweetpea made a jar of orange Playdoh “marmalade” to tuck into the suitcase along with the scrapbook.

Paddigton's Marmalade

You can find more Paddington fun at the Official Paddington Bear Website, or print out some Paddington Coloring Pages. And I am so excited that a movie is coming out (by the producer of HarryPotter) just in time for Christmas! Take a sneak peek:

Don’t forget to download your Where in the World? Lapbook to document your adventure this month. The Poppins Book Nook Introduction Lapbook is still available too.

I love the Paddington books. They were some of my favorites even when I was little. And I love the suitcase and the marmalade. 🙂

I love the idea of making a suitcase with brown bags and a cereal box. It is genius really. I am thinking of so many titles I could use this idea with (Grandma Summer is one on our to read list that this will work perfectly with).

Thank you for helping to bring a spoonful of reading fun to the Poppins Book Nook this month!
