Take Time for the Birth of Jesus

December 12, 2012 By: amyswanderingcomment

M Book Set

The Christmas Season has a way of rushing past in a multi-color blur!
We must be intentional if we want to focus on the true gift of the season.

Grapevine Studies provides an easy, affordable way to slow down and celebrate The Birth of Christ with your children.
All you need to know is how to draw simple stick figures!

Here are a few ideas to make some memories with your study:

Put up your nativity scene little by little, each day adding the piece that matches your study.

Make a book out of your stick figures and give it to a grandparent.

Act out the bible story using your pictures as a script- even non-readers can participate!

Select a few of your favorite images and cut them out. Add them to some garland, or decorate a small tree.

Write some of your favorite verses from the study on strips of red & green paper and glue together to make a chain.

Would you like to win one?
One of my wonderful readers will win a copy of The Birth of Jesus ebook!!

Click on the giveaway button below to enter.
This is going to be a short & sweet giveaway, so don’t dilly-dally!

The House of Christmas

The House Of Christmas

There fared a mother driven forth
Out of an inn to roam;
In the place where she was homeless
All men are at home.
The crazy stable close at hand,
With shaking timber and shifting sand,
Grew a stronger thing to abide and stand
Than the square stones of Rome.

For men are homesick in their homes,
And strangers under the sun,
And they lay their heads in a foreign land
Whenever the day is done.
Here we have battle and blazing eyes,
And chance and honour and high surprise,
Where the yule tale was begun.

A Child in a foul stable,
Where the beasts feed and foam;
Only where He was homeless
Are you and I at home;
We have hands that fashion and heads that
But our hearts we lost–how long ago!
In a place no chart nor ship can show
Under the sky’s dome.

This world is wild as an old wives’ tale,
And strange the plain things are,
The earth is enough and the air is enough
For our wonder and our war;
But our rest is as far as the fire-drake swings
And our peace is put in impossible things
Where clashed and thundered unthinkable wings
Round an incredible star.

To an open house in the evening
Home shall men come,
To an older place than Eden
And a taller town than Rome.
To the end of the way of the wandering star,
To the things that cannot be and that are,
To the place where God was homeless
And all men are at home.

~G. K. Chesterton

Make a Birdseed Wreath

December 6, 2012 By: amyswandering8 Comments

birdseed wreath 3

This beautiful birdseed wreath is a simple & inexpensive homemade gift.

Great for the grandparents!!

Easy Birdseed Wreath

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 3 Tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 4 cups birdseed
  • non-stick cooking spray
  • bundt pan

Spray the bundt pan with the nonstick cooking spray.

Mix the warm water and gelatin in a bowl until dissolved. Whisk in the flour and corn syrup until well-combined. It will be thick.

Add in the seeds and stir until the all of the seeds are coated. It will be pretty sticky by this point.

Spoon the birdseed mixture into the pan, pressing down until it is packed and level. I used my hands on this step.

Allow to dry for about 24 hours*. The surface will harden and turn white when it is done. Gently remove your wreath from the pan, tie on a ribbon, and enjoy!

*After drying for 24 hours, you can place it in a 200 degree oven for 1-2 hours to ensure it is dry all the way through. Allow to cool before removing from the pan. Your wreath should feel rock-hard when it is ready.
