gingerbread baby

The Crafty Crow shared her wonderful idea for a Christmas Book and Activity Advent. She has a whole list of books and activities, but I’m making my own list to go with the books we already have.

I was already planning to make cinnamon applesauce dough because I am making gingerbread man pins for a craft fair. I mixed up a double batch so the kids could cut out some ornaments, and later today we will be reading Gingerbread Baby. If you don’t have the book, you can listen to Jan Brett read it. We might also print out this board game or decorate a gingerbread house from this mural set. I don’t have time to start it this year, but I love this adorable cross stitch pattern. Wouldn’t that make a cute pillow?

This cute printable nativity clip art would make a good countdown if you color a piece each day.

wfmw – make a wish with santa

November 26, 2008 By: amyswandering2 Comments

Santa is just a fun, imaginary part of our Christmas. He shares court with Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and the Griswold Family. We try to focus on our Savior’s birth instead of what is under the tree, but this year -for the first time – my kids will be writing to Santa. Why this sudden change in tradition? Well, it’s because I received this in my email:

“The magic of Macy’s will unfold this holiday season as children throughout the Chicagoland area and across the country are invited to write and drop off their letters to Santa – stamped and addressed to Santa at the North Pole – at any Macy’s store in the designated Santa Mail letterbox. Each Macy’s store will have a BELIEVE Station that features a Believe Meter, letter-writing station with postcards and an official R.H. Macy Santa Mail letterbox.

For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation up to $1 million to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The BELIEVE theme was inspired by the famous letter that eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon wrote to the editor of the New York Sun in 1897 and the response she received saying “Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.”

As the mother of a child who had cancer, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is very dear to my heart. We never got the chance to take our Make-A-Wish trip, but I’ll never forget what a blessing it was to be offered the opportunity to get away and just be a family in the midst of all the chaos. If you have a Macy’s near you, take a minute to swing by Santa’s Post Office with your kids to drop off a letter. It is a simple act that will bless so many precious children who have had to grow up all too soon.
