Engaging the Culture with Christian Holiday Books for Kids

September 26, 2016 By: amyswandering1 Comment

*Disclosure: I received a free Love Letters book set for review purposes and am being compensated for my time. I am not required to give a positive review.  As always,  I am sharing my honest opinion with you.

Christian Holiday Books

We are one of those families who put out food for the reindeer and celebrate the birth of Jesus. We trunk or treat in the church parking lot. Holy Week is one of our favorite times of the year, but we also dye eggs and fill Easter baskets.

We have never lied to our children, but have instead chosen to embrace the joy and fun of each season while focusing on the One who brings true JOY. Our kids know that they better behave out of obedience to God’s word, and not because Santa is watching. [Read more…]

A Year of Homeschool Crafts

September 2, 2016 By: amyswandering7 Comments

Added 7/30/17: You asked for it … You got it! Another Year of Homeschool Crafts is ready for the 2017-18 school year. Go HERE to check it out!

I am the Queen of Good Intentions. Every new school year I decide that THIS is going to be the year when we do weekly homeschool crafts. My youngest girls especially love them.

We usually start out on a good foot – back to school and Autumn crafts are easy. Then the holidays begin, which is also birthday season for four of my kids, and it goes off the rails because I don’t have a plan.

I am determined this year, and have come up with an entire year of homeschool crafts to do with my kids. We might skip a few weeks due to lack of time, but it won’t be because I was unprepared.

A Year of Homeschool Crafts

I have a few prerequisites for the crafts we do: I want inexpensive, easily-obtained supplies, and I prefer crafts that can be played with or will become part of our seasonal decor.

I invite you to join me on our year-long crafting adventure. I am assigning weeks, not dates, to each project so these plans will still be useful in future years. I made 3 FREE Printable Craft Planners to help keep us on track. (Download info is at the end.)
p.s. – See how I afford the ink for all these printables.

Free Craft Planners

You will notice that there are only links being shared, not pictures. These bloggers worked hard to share these ideas and I want you to visit their sites for the instructions. I suggest keeping basic supplies on hand throughout the year. Many of these can be picked up at the dollar store.

Basic supplies: white paper, colored paper, cardstock, scissors, glue stick, school glue, glue gun, tape, stapler, hole punch, felt, markers, crayons, oil pastels, colored pencils, acrylic paints, watercolors, assorted paintbrushes, colored tissue paper, brown lunch bags, white coffee filters, pipe cleaners,  toilet paper tubes, paper egg cartons, paper plates, bubble wrap, string, yarn, wooden craft sticks, magazines

I recommend going through each craft at the beginning of the school year and filling in the supply lists. That way you will know in advance what you need each month. Feel free to change the colors or details to suit your decor. We will be making garlands out of a few of the crafts to hang over our windows.

Note: The new 2017-2018 homeschool craft plan is now available. Go HERE to check it out! (The plan below is not dated though, so pick your favorite or mix & match the two years.)

Christina Rossetti Christmas Poems to Color

Christina Rossetti Christmas Poems to Color

We discovered Christina Rossetti through First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind. Many of her poems are simple, but thoughtful, making them excellent poems to memorize.

I was thrilled to discover that she wrote a collection of Christmas poems. I took seven of these and created a poetry coloring book using vintage images. Download yours below and celebrate the birth of Christ with these beautiful verses. [Read more…]
