We started the morning with one of our favorite seasonal activities – Mad Libs!

The kids like the silly stories, and Mommy likes the extra grammar practice. You would be surprised how quickly little ones can catch on.

{31 Days} Thanksgiving Planners

October 13, 2011 By: amyswanderingcomment

I know it is not even Halloween yet, so why a Thanksgiving planner?

If you already  have a plan in place, it is easy to take advantage of sales and stock up a little at a time (it‘s less painful that way 🙂 ).

You would be surprised at how many generic Fall items you can find in the after-Halloween clearance sales!

Simple Bread Braid

November 18, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

Hubby sent us all a text yesterday morning to remind us that it was National Homemade Bread Day. (I told him it was almost national heart attack day when all three phones started dinging & chirping at once!)

The girls were going to make this scrumptious Simple Bread Braid, which was the first bread I ever made about 17 years ago. They ended up going to work with their Daddy after lunch, so guess who got to make the bread? LOL

This bread is soooooo delicious!! It would be a great addition to your Thanksgiving menu.

{Simple Bread Braid}

1 egg white

1 pkg yeast (2 1/4 t)

1 c milk

4 T butter

3 T sugar

1 t salt

2 1/2 c flour

Beat egg white until stiff, then stir in the yeast. Heat butter, salt, sugar and 1/2 of the milk over med-low heat. Remove from heat and add the rest of the milk. Add milk mixture to the egg white. Mix in flour and let rise for 1 hour.

Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth – you might need to add more flour if it is too sticky. Divide dough into 3 pieces and form into long ropes. Braid the ropes; pinch ends to seal.

Place on lightly greased baking sheet & let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. Brush top of hot bread with butter & enjoy!

Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Scavenger Hunt

November 17, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

The grocery ads that arrived this morning are chock-full of Thanksgiving yummies.

I searched through them and created a Thanksgiving Grocery Ad Scavenger Hunt.

This list was made using ads from Kroger, Tom Thumb, and Albertsons.

Find the price of each item in all three ads, then add all the items up to determine which store is the best bargain.

Little ones can do a scavenger hunt with one ad by just hunting for the items on the list.

I plan on doing a similar one for Christmas, and include a hunt through my coupon binder!

{Grocery List}

20 lb. frozen turkey

10 lb. ham

5 lbs. sweet potatoes

2 lbs. butter

1 carton Blue Bell ice cream

1 box Ritz crackers

2 boxes Betty Crocker cake mix

3 cans cranberry sauce

1 fresh pumpkin pie

1 fresh pecan pie

1 bunch celery

4  2-ltr. bottles soft drink

4 lb. bag of sugar

16 oz. cream cheese

2 pkgs. rolls

2 cans chicken broth

32 oz. shredded cheddar cheese

24 oz. frozen corn

1 bag Nestle chocolate chips

1 bouquet Fall flowers
