Writing Prompts Are Coming

May 1, 2014 By: amyswanderingcomment

Hi Everyone! In our race to get school finished before summer, I completely dropped the ball on this month’s writing prompts calendar. How can it be May already?? I will get it done and out to everyone by tomorrow. My apologies!

Here are the first two days:

May 1st – Look up this Bible verse and copy it: Psalm 19:14

May 2nd – Write the words CINCO DE MAYO across the top of your page. How many words can you create using the letters?

50% off Notebooking Pages Lifetime Membership

April 30, 2014 By: amyswanderingcomment

I love my Notebooking Pages membership! I purchased it a couple of years ago during one of these big sales.  No matter what we are studying, Notebooking Pages always has what we need.

I’ve spent years using and blogging about free homeschool resources. A product has to really wow me in order for me to fork over my money. NotebookingPages.com offers me two things I can’t find on my own: Time and Quality

It takes a significant amount of time to hunt down free notebooking pages for a specific topic. Making my own is an option, but isn’t much faster. To be honest, notebooking just wouldn’t happen often around here if I had to do it on my own. (Or clean clothes and hot meals wouldn’t happen, which might be a problem.)

The quality of these pages helps my children take pride in the work they do. The illustrations are crisp  and clear. One thing I love is that each topic will have several different layouts from which to choose, along with different line styles.

With over 100 different sets, and more added each month, there is probably a page for whatever you are studying. On the rare occasion that I have not found what I want, I just pull one of the many decorative generic pages for my kiddos to use.

Guess what!! If you purchase during this birthday sale-a-bration, you will get 2 years of FREE access to The Notebooking Publisher. It is a web-based app that allows you to design your own notebooking and copywork pages using templates or from scratch. You can plug in your own pics that you find on sites like Wikimedia and create a custom page. Get your kids involved and let them create their own pages. You can type within the templates – perfect for high school projects.

The half-price $50 membership is only available for 5 days. It is a lifetime membership, which means you purchase it once and get access to every notebook page ever created from here on out. What a bargain price for years and years of beautiful printables!

Your Lifetime Membership includes:

  • $800+ current pages
  • All future pages
  • 2-year access to The Notebooking Publisher
  • $100 in BONUS Homeschooling e-gifts

I am encouraging you to thoughtfully consider if a Notebooking Pages membership is something that will bless your family. Take a look at some of the samples. Print them out and give ’em a go. But don’t wait too long – the 1/2 off sale ends May 4th. You don’t want to be kicking yourself on the 5th! 😀

FREE Samples:

  • A-Z ANIMAL PAGES SAMPLE
  • AMERICAN FIRST LADIES SAMPLE
  • AMERICAN PRESIDENTS SAMPLE
  • ANCIENT TIMES SAMPLE
  • BOOK OF CENTURIES COLORING PAGES
  • BOOK OF CENTURIES TOPICAL PAGES – BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SAMPLE
  • COPYWORK THEMED PAGES SAMPLE
  • FAMOUS COMPOSERS SAMPLE
  • NORTH AMERICAN BIRDS SAMPLE

FREE Traffic Light Cut & Paste Printable

April 28, 2014 By: amyswandering6 Comments

It is time once again for Poppins Book Nook. This month’s theme is:
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Feel free to join in the fun with the linky & giveaway at the end!

FREE Traffic Light Cut & Paste Printable

While browsing through books for this month’s theme, I remembered one that my older kids loved. Sweetpea knows the Wheels on the Bus song, but we hadn’t read the book.

the wheels on the bus

This is a fun interactive version!

I shared a little traffic safety poem that I used back in my preschool teacher days:

Green means GO

Yellow Means SLOW

and

Red means STOP! STOP! STOP!

One of Sweetpea’s favorite things to do is cut & paste activities, so I whipped up a little Traffic Light Cut & Paste page.

traffic cutting

We glued ours to a rectangle of black construction paper.

traffic light

I made two versions: with the poem and without. If you want the colors to be in the order of a real traffic light, you will need to read the poem from the bottom up.

Be sure to adjust your printer settings to borderless or whole page.

Robert Louis Stevenson Poems to Color

Robert Louis Stevenson Poems to Color

April is National Poetry Month and I am excited to co-host the
2014 Children’s Poetry Celebration & Contest!

{Keep reading for a freebie from me, contest details, and a giveaway.}

One of our favorite poetry books is A Child’s Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. The poems are simple enough for very young children to memorize, and reflect the innocence of a vintage childhood.

 child's garden of verses

The Swing

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
       Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
       Over the countryside—

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

I created a set of Robert Louis Stevenson Poems to Color for you to use with your kiddos. You can use them as coloring sheets, for copywork, or for memory work. Make a durable poetry notebook by printing the poems on cardstock and placing in a page protector.

Young Night-Thought

All night long and every night,
When my mama puts out the light,
I see the people marching by,
As plain as day before my eye.

  Armies and emperor and kings,
All carrying different kinds of things,
And marching in so grand a way,
You never saw the like by day.

So fine a show was never seen
  At the great circus on the green;
For every kind of beast and man
  Is marching in that caravan.

As first they move a little slow,
But still the faster on they go,
And still beside me close I keep
Until we reach the town of Sleep.
