starting over

October 7, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

Blogging has been a sporadic event for me since the beginning of summer. I really enjoyed my time on the TOS Crew last year, but all those reviews left little time for posting about the things I like. I ended up in place where I couldn’t even remember what I used to write about.

BuRnEd OuT!

Soooo I have decided to start over. First, I had to figure out what kind of posts I want to continue. I took a trip back through time and made a list.

Here are some things that make blogging enjoyable:

~ the fun & silliness involved in my TMI posts – I especially love it when my readers play along!

~ my Big List of Lists (you can see it in the column to the right)

~ the library list

~ fun holiday activities and carnivals

~ Simple Woman’s Daybook

~ Works For Me Wednesday

~ Jingling about cheap or free gifts

~ free homeschool resources

These are some new things I want to do:

~ Sunday Sampler – a collection of Bible verses, songs, quotes and links that have encouraged me

~ Updates on life in our lovely crazy family (my kids are a wee bit older than pictured – oops!)

Now it’s your turn: Are there any features here that you really enjoy? I will be glad to continue some of them! Is there anything new that you would like to see here, to encourage you in your walk as a Christian woman or homeschooler?

wfmw – cozy home scents

October 6, 2010 By: amyswandering1 Comment

This week’s WFMW has an Entertaining theme.

I love to create a cozy atmosphere in my home, especially when people come over. A burning candle is part of our everyday life.

There are lots of inexpensive ways to add a lovely scent to your home:

~ Keep a pot of simmering spices on the stove

~ Wash all of your linens in this fabric softener & they will smell like warm vanilla sugar

~ Toss pinecones, orange peels or cinnamon sticks into the fire

~ Sprinkle peppermint oil or vanilla on cottonballs and hide them around the house.

~ Tuck a perfume strip from a magazine into a drawer or cabinet

~ Sprinkle some cinnamon inside your vacuum cleaner bag

~ Toss a fabric softener sheet into the bottom of your trashcan after you empty it

~ Make your own Febreze with 2 cups warm water, 1 T baking soda and 2-3 T fabric softener – test a small spot first before using

~ Add a couple of drops of essential oil to a box of baking soda to make your own carpet deodorizer

~ Fill a basket with scented pinecones – I fill a planter on our porch to greet guests with a cinnamon-y welcome

What do you do to make your home cozy?

Run on over to We Are That Family for tons of entertaining tips!

october

October 1, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

Crispy air and azure skies,
High above, a white cloud flies,
Bright as newly fallen snow.
Oh the joy to those who know October!

Colors bright on bush and tree.
Over the weedy swamp, we see
A veil of purple and brown and gold.
Thy beauty words have never told. October!

Scolding sparrows on the lawn,
Rabbits frisking home at dawn,
Pheasants midst the sheaves of grain,
All in harmony acclaim, October!

Brown earth freshly turned by plow,
Apples shine on bended bough,
Bins o’erflowed with oats and wheat,
And satisfaction reigns complete. October!

Radiant joy is everywhere.
Spirits in tune to the spicy air,
Thrill in the glory of each day.
Life’s worth living when we say, October!
