Monthly Planning Notes {Free Printables}

October 10, 2013 By: amyswandering4 Comments

monthly planning notes

At the beginning of the school year, I created some monthly planning notes to give me a creative overview of our year. They have worked so well that I want to share them with you!

I wanted to be able to schedule out seasonal themes and activities, but a monthly calendar wasn’t giving me enough space. My planning notes are broken into weeks with plenty of room for writing.

A few of the things I list in my notes:

  • the week # (so I can coordinate with our school calendar)
  • our weekly Funschool theme
  • letter & # of the week for my preschooler
  • holidays
  • field trips
  • craft ideas

October Math Poems

October Math Poem Worksheets

It is time once again for Poppins Book Nook and this month’s theme is School! Hmmm, that’s a tricky one for homeschoolers, so we decided to go with an education theme.

One of the books we have loved over the years is Mathematickles!, a book of Math poems found in nature.

mathematickles

Mathematickles! takes words, math, and seasons, and rolls them all up into beautiful word pictures. For example:

“holes + nuts – nuts = squirrel hide & seek”

and

“maple leaves + puddle = crimson ships”

I love how these poems combine creativity with logic, so I made an October Math Poem worksheet to help my kids create some seasonal poetry equations of their own.

October Math Poems Printable

A few of the ones we wrote:

stick + sticky – dental fillings = caramel apple

1/3 moonlight + 1/3 sunset + 1/3 sunrise = candy corn

pumpkin ÷ imagination = jack o’ lantern

trick x treat = candy ’til Easter

Feel free to download the October Math Poems worksheet, and PLEASE share some of your creations in the comments!!
