I’ll be honest – we call them all bugs. šŸ˜€ Insects fascinate my kids so they are a big part of our nature study. We don’t collect, just capture & release. God’s artwork is definitely on display in these beautiful creatures.

Read Nature eBooks for FREE

If you are tight on storage space like I am, you don’t have room for a large nature book collection. The beauty of nature eBooks is that they don’t take up any shelf space and are available whenever you need them.

Open Library

Free Nature Field Guides online guides, printables, & ebooks

Field guides are essential to a good nature study. I’ve discovered that strewing them about leads to curiosity, which leads to learning. I tuck the books that are not currently being usedĀ into a big basket by our nature table.

Guides do not have to break the bank. I picked most of ours up at thrift stores, garage sales, and library book sales. You can also check them out at the library or read them online. (Don’t miss the list of ebooks at the end that you can check out from the Open Library.) [Read more…]

Creating a Nature Journal

I will admit that I am writing this post for me. šŸ™‚ We have always done nature notebooks instead of nature journals. Nature journaling seemed too intimidating for this overwhelmed momma, but now that the kids are older I want to give it a go!

Creating a Nature Journal - book suggestions, sketching & watercolor lessons, and journal inspiration

I’ve done some searching for helpful info on types of nature journals, sketching lessons, and watercolor techniques. There are also links to books on nature journaling, and some nice examples. I’m always inspired by seeing someone else’s idea.Ā  [Read more…]
