wfmw – chore helpers

September 19, 2007 By: amyswandering3 Comments

wfmwheader_12.jpeg

I want to pass along a few handy chore sites I’ve come across. Chart Jungle is the only one I’ve used, but the other two look fun.

PAYjr. has a printable chore chart, online calendars, and keeps track of chores done & money owed if you combine chores & allowance.

My sister found Chore Wars. Family members compete with each other to finish chores, create a character & play an online game.

Chart Jungle is a site I’ve used for a long time – it’s especially good for young helpers. She has a chart for everything imaginable, and even a template for chore bucks. Join her mailing list & you will get an email whenever a new chart is posted.

Run on over to Rocks In My Dryer for some really great links!

Tips I want to remember:

~~I reconnected with an old friend and spiritual mentor this week. I was doing a search for something completely unrelated and the first entry was for his new blog. He was my teacher in the Bible Missions program I entered 17 years ago and brought Jesus out of the pages of my Bible & into my life. I will be eternally thankful for you RB!

~~Through his blog I found several other friends I haven’t seen in years. Love you Shellie!! And to everyone else, my internet provider is misbehaving & I can’t open your sites – I’m working on it!

~~All four of my kiddos came down with an upper respiratory virus last week. I’m thankful it didn’t turn into anything worse, and that they all four got sick at the same time!

~~The air is turning cooler & Fall is near!!

~~ My brother’s birthday is today – Happy Birthday Mark!!!

~~We had a Church Family meeting tonight to discuss a new building opportunity. I am so thankful to be part of a healthy, loving body.

~~Little Miss Sassyfrass is finally out of the pull-ups WOOHOO well, except for nighttime.

what kind of mother are you?

September 16, 2007 By: amyswandering6 Comments

UPDATED AT BOTTOM

Sprittibee posted a link to a “Mothering Style” quiz. I was rather amazed at how accurate mine is. I plan on signing up for their newsletter and maybe reading the book.

I am The “Give ‘Em Their Space” Mother (ISTP) LOL

  • Non-intrusive and respectful of differences, the ISTP mother gives her children the personal space they need to develop as separate, self-sufficient individuals. As children grow and mature, she enjoys observing how each one becomes his or her own person. She seeks to accept and honor each child’s interests, opinions, and choices.
  • The ISTP mother does not believe in authority or control for its own sake. Instead, she favors a non-directive approach. Yet she has high expectations for each child’s self-discipline as a key to self sufficiency.
  • To these ends, the ISTP mother wants to “be there” for her children—to meet their basic needs and keep them safe. Her goal is to help her children think for themselves and take responsibility for their own actions.

I’m not too sure what a non-directive approach to discipline is, but I do agree with the first part about not believing in authority or control for its own sake. We are pretty strict with our kids, but only when we need to be. Our ‘rules’ are built upon biblical concepts, and our kids know exactly what is expected from them and why.

Take the quiz & let us know what kind of mother you are! You don’t have to post the results on your blog if you don’t want, but leave me a comment so we can compare notes :o) I’m especially nosy interested in my IRL friends: Jill, Kelli, Emme, Melanie, & Tiersa -c’mon, you know you’re curious!

Updated to add: I feel the need to clarify something on this post, not because anyone said anything, but because I’m paranoid like that ;o) I said above that I didn’t believe in authority or control for it’s own sake. After reading it several times, I’m not positive I know what they mean by that – so I’ll just tell you what I meant ( just so everything is clear & you know I’m not a slacker parent!) I just meant that I try not to ever abuse the authority God has given me over my children by being harsh or controlling just because I’m the Mommy & I said so – not to be confused with actually saying, “Because I’m the Mommy & I said so!” That’s a whole ‘nother ball of wax & gets said regularly around here. So there, now that I’ve thoroughly confused you & left you scratching your head, you may return to your regularly scheduled program. My work here is done.

it’s monk & neagle time

September 15, 2007 By: amyswanderingcomment

Remember when I got my free preview copy of Monk & Neagle’s upcoming album? I confess that, while excited to be chosen, I wasn’t sure how often I would reallllly listen to it. The clips from their website were good, but a little “lite” for my taste.

I’m happy to report that The Twenty-First Time is my new housecleaning CD! That is the highest honor that can be given to a CD in this house, one usually reserved for Third Day, Newsboys, and Toby Mac (with that line-up, do you see why I had some reservations about “lite” music? LOL)

The album will be released next Tuesday, September 18th. You can pre-order from their website for only $9.97! Head on over there & take a listen! You can also click the pic below or in my sidebar for the listening booth.
