Lapbooking Defined

For those who aren’t familiar with lapbooking in homeschool – here is information from the A Journey Through Learning site to explain a bit more on how to use lapbooking to add depth and inspiration in your family homeschool:

“Think of lapbooking as educational scrapbooking for any subject you would like. Your child records information, through drawing, dictating or writing, into nifty little mini-booklets. These mini-booklets are then glued into specially-folded file folders. We provide all the mini-booklet templates, topical information we call “study guides,” and all the instructions!

When complete, your child will have something to show Dad, grandparents, and friends. Every time your child shows and explains the contents in his lapbook, he will be continuing to learn the information within it and not even realize it! Lapbooks are motivating for the reluctant learner. Beats boring worksheets hands down!”

Poppins Book Nook: At the Seashore

At the Seashore

It is time once again for Poppins Book Nook. This month’s theme is: The Great Outdoors Feel free to join in the fun with the linky & giveaway at the end!

Since moving near the beach last year, we have spent considerable time at the seashore. We’ve seen sea turtle nesting spots, a giant (but, sadly, dead) sea turtle, crabs, pelicans, jellyfish, and a rainbow of seashells. There is always something new to explore!

One of my favorite outdoors series is One Small Square. I love them so much that I hope to own the whole collection someday! We are focusing on the Seashore book.

We are having fun with our Art at the Beach lessons. They are fun for all ages and the lessons will keep us busy through the summer.

It’s education-in-disguise as we try to find out as much as we can about our new surroundings. Enjoy these free seashore resources!
