It is time once again for Poppins Book Nook and this month’s theme is animals! Feel free to join in the fun with the linky at the end.
Of course the animal on my kiddos’ minds this month is the turkey. We moved far away from family this summer, and this is the first year that we have ever made an entire Thanksgiving meal. We compared weights and prices searching for the perfect bird. We calculated how long it needed to thaw, and then we hunted down a delicious brine recipe.
One of our favorite Thanksgiving books is A Turkey for Thanksgiving, a sweet story about a turkey who gets invited over for Thanksgiving dinner but is afraid of being the main course.
Because life has been busy this month, I decided to round up some great turkey activities instead of create one:
These are some more of our favorite turkey books:
A Plump and Perky Turkey: The residents of Squawk Valley think they can outsmart the turkeys, but one proves to be too clever.
Amelia Bedelia Talks Turkey: You can just imagine the craziness that surrounds Amelia Bedelia when she helps with the Thanksgiving play.
This is the Turkey: A humorous tale told in the style of ‘This is the House That Jack Built”.
Each month the Poppins Book Nook members will be hosting a book giveaway. This month it is for this beautiful National Geographic Animal Encyclopedia. The giveaway is open to US residents only and ends December 17th.
