April 27, 2011 By: amyswandering3 Comments

Are your words . . .

T – True?

H – Helpful?

I – Inspiring?

WFMW – Easter Baskets for a Large Family

April 21, 2011 By: amyswanderingcomment

Our Easter celebrations have very little to do with the Easter Bunny these days, but my kids still enjoy getting a basket full of goodies.

I realized several years ago, when we only had 4 littles, that I could not keep up with the expense & sheer quantity of little junky trinkets that went along with filling traditional baskets.

I decided to switch to one family basket instead. I think our first one was in a wicker laundry basket.

The beauty of this is that I can fill the basket with larger items for the entire group. I usually try to stick with things that can be played with outside. This year I snagged this deal for only $2!!

Each child gets a chocolate cross, then I add a few other candies and maybe a book & craft from our local Christian bookstore.

I can fill a large basket for under $25 and my kiddos love it. That is less than $5 per child, which wouldn’t go very far in an individual basket.

My favorite thing about changing to one basket is that it emphasizes something very important to our family –> that we share with each other and enjoy life together!

May your Easter be filled with the power of the Resurrection!!

wfmw – low carb pasta

April 6, 2011 By: amyswandering2 Comments

My husband went Low Carb several years ago and I had to make some big adjustments to our menu. We enjoyed all of the healthy changes except one … PASTA.

All of the low carb pastas we tried were terrible! They looked and tasted like cardboard and the texture was all wrong.

I ended up just cooking it for him while the rest of us ate regular pasta.

One day I came across an ad in a magazine for Dreamfields Pasta. They were making some crazy claim that we wouldn’t be able to tell that their pasta was low carb.

I was skeptical, but bought a box the next time I went to the store.

THEY WERE RIGHT!

It tastes the same and we have been eating it weekly ever since.

You can see how it all works HERE

I buy mine at Kroger, Albertsons and Super Target. You can find a list of stores HERE or order online.

It does cost a little more (around $2 a box), but I use coupons from the paper and from the Dreamfields newsletter.

I am giving away a set of FIVE $1 COUPONS!!

Leave a comment to enter the giveaway. If I get more than 20 comments, I will give away a second set of FIVE $1 COUPONS!

I will choose the winner(s) on Tuesday, April 12th.

{ Since this sounds like a commercial… :-)I am not affiliated with Dreamfields and was not asked to write this post. Just sharing a product that REALLY works for me! I received the coupons as a member of the Dreamfields Taste & Tell Team. }

While you are here, enter my Yoplait Yogurt Fitness Prize Pack! (ends Friday)

WFMW- 40 Bags in 40 Days

March 9, 2011 By: amyswandering3 Comments

I love this idea of 40 Bags in 40 Days from Clover Lane.

During the 40 days of Lent, get rid of all the STUFF that clutters my life.

Little by little … one area a day.

I keep saying that it all needs to go. I want to simplify and concentrate on what matters.

But I just never get around to it.

So what is going to be different this time?

I am committing this project to God.

Something not to be taken lightly.

Giving it up because He gave it all for me.

Do you want to join in?

Here’s A Round Tuit to get you started  : )

Choosing Gratitude

February 16, 2011 By: amyswanderingcomment

Little did I know when I recently started two different book studies that they would go hand in hand! Why am I always amazed that God works that way?

I’ve always considered myself a cup-half-full, bright side of life gal. I had no idea that I have SO much to learn about gratitude.

“Is the gratitude that flows out of your life as abounding as the grace that has flowed into your life? Undeniable guilt, plus undeserved grace, should equal unbridled gratitude“

{Choosing Gratitude by Nancy Leigh DeMoss}

OUCH!!!

It is easy to be generically thankful for all that God has given us, but does that translate over into our everyday lives? Are our words and actions a blessing or a hindrance?

These two books have made me realize that I have GOT TO slow down and take the time to recognize all of the blessings in my life.

And take the time to acknowledge those blessings and say Thank You.

I need to take my eyes off myself and start looking outward. My life is full of Joy and I need to let that overflow into the lives of others.

I would LOVE your help in brainstorming some ways to show Gratitude and Joy!

Here are a few to get us started:

~ Participate in Ann’s 1000 Gifts List every Monday by posting on your blog, or use her printable Gratitude Calendar.

~ Nancy shares some great resources on her site:

  • 30-Day Husband Encouragement Challenge
  • The “One Anothers” In Scripture
  • Growing In Gratitude: A 30-Day Challenge

~ Email a blogger who encourages you regularly and let her know what an impact her words have had.

~ Drop a Thinking of You note in the mail every few days. Allow God to show you just the right person to send it to that day.

~ Deliver a little treat to the neighbors. Attach a note with an encouraging scripture on it.

~ Pay careful attention to the words coming out of your mouth. Try to not complain – even about the weather.

~ Be generous with your praise. It’s not like you are going to run out!

Please leave a comment with your ideas and let’s get busy showing Gratitude!
