review – Alphabet Beats

May 26, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

Alphabet Beats is a multi-sensory handwriting program for ages 2 1/2 to 8. We chose to review the lowercase DVD. Each lesson is only about 5 minutes long and moves quickly & smoothly from one activity to another. Lessons are taught through visuals, auditory/rhythm, and repetition. This program has also been proven very effective for children with special needs like Autism, PDD, ADD/ADHD, and Down Syndrome.

There are many things that I like about this product, but my favorite is that I can participate with Sassyfrass (5), but I don’t have to teach the lessons. With 5 kiddos to coordinate, my brain can turn to mush by the end of the day. It is so nice to just sit down and view each lesson and have FUN with my little one. (The youngest can sometimes fall through the cracks as we cram to get the older kids’ essentials in.)

You can view the free downloads for these DVDs HERE.

You can watch a demo video HERE.

The Nitty Gritty:

  • $35 each or $64.99 for both

Value:  These are not cheap, but I think you get what you pay for.

See what my TOS Crew Mates have to say about Alphabet Beats!

I received a free DVD for the purpose of writing my honest review. No other compensation was given.

garage sale goodies

May 24, 2010 By: amyswandering3 Comments

There were so many garage sales this past Saturday! I ran out of money & room in the van before I even visited all the ones on our end of town. Here are the things I stole good deals I got:

I paid $5 for this wicker rocker, table & all the cushions. My $5 included a small sofa too, but it was in bad shape & wouldn’t fit in the van. I told the lady to keep it & sell it again LOL. I did keep the black toile cushions from the sofa.

three plush bathroom rugs $1 ea  ~  two directors chairs for the big girls’ room $2 ea (will paint the canvas seats)

very old children’s textbooks for my collection *free!*  ~  2 tupperware containers .50 ea  ~  turquoise earring/bracelet/necklace set $2  ~  little girl clothes .25 ea  ~  like new rice cooker $5  ~  4 vintage pyrex dishes $3  ~  shoes $1 ea

I can’t wait for this coming Saturday – it is half price day at Goodwill 🙂

simple woman’s daybook

May 24, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

FOR TODAY

Outside my window… overcast & warm

I am thinking… about school plans for next year

I am thankful for… my year on the TOS Crew

From the learning rooms… the last week of school! We have to tie up history & math.

From the kitchen… cheddar bay biscuits for breakfast – special request by Sassyfrass

I am creating… new chore charts for the summer

I am going… to the Goodwill half price sale on Saturday

I am reading… Joshua; Radical; I Will Carry You

I am hoping… that Sweetpea continues this good sleeping pattern…I’m tired *yawn*

I am hearing… a sing-song-y baby voice

Around the house… more decluttering – I’m still on track!

A few plans for the rest of the week: get all school papers graded & filed away, finish the last of my reviews, post some giveaways!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing…

(click for bigger pic)

This is what happens when you have 3 big sisters who treat you like a living baby doll. And that’s not a rash on her legs – she got into the nail polish! My hands are full with this precious one LOL.

family fun panel

May 20, 2010 By: amyswanderingcomment

I just signed up for the FamilyFun Reader Panel. Here are the details:

“Our FamilyFun Reader Panel consists of volunteer families who are e-mailed periodically and asked for their ideas and opinions on various FamilyFun topics, from crafts and cooking to traditions and travel. In return for submitting ideas, these expert families win our eternal gratitude – plus cash and prize incentives.

After responding to just two of these e-mail requests, you will automatically receive a special FamilyFun prize.  (Past prizes have included: FamilyFun Craft Kits, your choice from a list of FamilyFun books, a one-year FamilyFun subscription to give to someone as a gift, etc.)  Plus, if your family and your idea are featured in our magazine, we’ll pay you $100! Sometimes we may also ask you to fill out a survey online. Each time you complete one of these surveys, you will be entered into a sweepstakes drawing for a cash prize.”

You can sign up HERE.
