wfmw – weird cough remedy

September 12, 2007 By: amyswandering4 Comments

wfmwheader.jpg

I came across this home remedy while blog browsing last night:  to stop nighttime coughing, put a generous layer of Vicks Vaporub on the bottom of the feet & cover with socks. I Googled it and many people recommend this technique, including medical professionals. I wish I’d seen this two days ago when all four of my kiddos were coughing up a lung!

I’ve been using the free Webmomz grocery list for about 3 years now. I love it because it includes kid-friendly foods like juice boxes & cheese sticks, and important things like cookie dough ;o) It is just so cute & cheery!!

wfmw – blog for kids

August 8, 2007 By: amyswandering10 Comments

wfmwheader_12.jpeg

I’ve been participating in Back to Homeschool Week so I thought I would share an idea I will be using for school this year. It is not an exclusive idea though, so keep reading even if you are not a homeschooler!

I set up a blog just for my kids to read. I put all of their favorite game links in the blogroll, plus lots of educational sites that I want them to explore. They will have computer time each afternoon and I have assigned different subjects for each day. After they choose a site to explore, they will have to leave me a comment telling me what they learned and any questions they might have. (sneaking in writing practice where they least expect it, Ha Ha Ha) They can also let me know of any projects they would like to do or subjects they would like to know more about. I will be posting sites that go along with our current studies, or just a little note to say Hi, I Love You.

I will be sharing Tons of FANTASTIC educational links like these in the next few weeks, so bookmark me & check back. They are great for homeschoolers or for homework helpers. I can’t share my kids’ blog with you because it is private, but I will share their assignments:

Monday – Math & Geography

Tuesday – Science & Animals/Bugs

Wednesday – Reading & Bible

Thursday – Health & History

Friday – Music & Art

wfmw – no horror stories

Today is Works-For-Me Wednesday: The Great Parenting Advice Edition

I have 4 wonderfully sweet & stinkery kids only because of the grace & mercy of God, not because I’ve done anything right ;o)

My little bit of advice today is this:

DO NOT TELL YOUR HORRIFYING BIRTH STORIES IN FRONT OF A WOMAN WHO HAS YET TO HAVE CHILDREN!

Our birth stories are a badge of honor, but use discretion when telling them. When I was a very young newlywed, my older friends were already having children. I’ve always loved babies & looked forward to having a family, so I was very excited about their new journeys. That’s when the fun began! I heard story after story about the horrible labors & recoveries. I am a big fat whiny baby when it comes to pain and I was terrified!!

I always try to be honest, but non-graphic, when talking with women who have not yet gone through pregnancy & childbirth. Our job is to encourage them (especially our own daughters) and let them know that it’s all worth it the instant you look in your sweet baby’s eyes.

p.s. Also remember that many women in your midst have empty wombs & would give anything to ‘endure’ pregnancy & childbirth. Choose your words carefully!

wfmw – pretty razor & coupon

July 10, 2007 By: amyswandering8 Comments

wfmwheader_12.jpeg

I belong to a women’s network called Vocalpoint and received the prettiest razor in the mail yesterday – a Gillette Venus Breeze. (They send me free stuff all the time, you should join!) The razor really did leave my legs soft and smooth. The only negative was that the gel bars got a little gooey, but no biggie.

I have five $4.00 coupons for this razor to share, so leave a comment if you want one. Be sure to include your email or blog address so I can find out where to send it. If more than five people want one, I will do a drawing and send them out this weekend.

UPDATE : coupons are spoken for, thanks!

ideas i want to remember:

collecting grease

kid art software
